Hi, I’m Silvia and before becoming a Pilates teacher for many years I had a busy job in London working as an Architect. I used to spend long hours at a desk working under high levels of stress. I started to develop back pain and anxiety and tried different classes at the gym, but my aches and anxiety persisted.
A good friend of mine suggested we try Pilates at a climbing centre in Bermondsey. The class was small and the Pilates teacher would explain each exercise in detail, giving us individual attention and correcting our posture. I was hooked from the beginning. It was exercise as I never experienced before, a form of mindful movement.
As I continue to practice Pilates not only did my body become stronger but also my back pain and high stress levels disappeared. Pilates was one of the highlights of my week, something to look forward to. I continued my Pilates practice during pregnancy as a way of keeping fit and helping with my changing posture. Pilates helped me enormously not only to prepare for birth but to recover quickly during the postnatal period. I then decided to train as a Pilates teacher to bring the benefits of Pilates to others.
“I truly believe Pilates is for everyone. Whatever your background, your age or level of fitness. Pilates is a great tool that will strengthen your body and enhance your mind.”
About Body Control Pilates
As a certified teacher and member of the Body Control Pilates Association, I have to adhere to a Code of Practice and continue my education on a regular basis, meaning that I will building my skills and knowledge to bring you the latest exercises to your sessions.
Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective -and medically-approved. It is of an holistic nature, being based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is ‘awareness of your own body’ and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles:Relaxation, Co-ordination, Alignment, Stamina, Concentration, Centring, Breathing and Flowing movements.
As a newcomer to Pilates, I was apprehensive about how learning virtually would work, but Silvia has done a great job introducing me to it.
Her attentiveness and personalized approach ensure I’m developing the right technique and focusing on my goals. She takes pain areas into account, so the classes are structured in a way where I can do everything, which is important to me.
Pilates was recommended to me after seeing a physio for some time for back pain, I am happy to see it already greatly reduced, so I’m excited for the continued and ongoing benefits! I was also quite surprised how relaxing I find it as well.
I’d only done Pilates once before so was a complete novice, and with the added challenge of doing my first sessions via Zoom due to the pandemic.
Silvia’s instructions were clear and easy to follow and she is good at making simple corrections to any faults.
There is a good mix of people in the class and Silvia is able to cater for us all. Recommended.
Silvia immediately put me at ease and explained the positions clearly. Her sessions are done with care with her making sure my technique was correct including my breathing.
After only a few sessions, I was already finding an improvement in my posture and general well-being.
She is a lovely person too – thank you Silvia!
Loved every minute of the Pilates sessions. My ageing body felt rejuvenated and relaxed.
Silvia’s instructions were very clear and easy to follow. It’s a date in my diary from now on.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my Pilates sessions with Silvia.
She is very knowledgeable and professional and along with finding her classes enjoyable and relaxing, it has definitely helped with my aches and pains.
